Kevin Kline is Mathias, a broke New York drunk who inherits an apartment in Paris from his estranged father in this comedy-drama. He goes to France to liquidate the asset, but finds a refined old lady (Maggie Smith) living there with her protective daughter (Kristen Scott Thomas).

Returning to her own time, Claire must reconcile her future with the life she left behind. Shifting back to 18th century, Jamie, Claire and Murtagh arrive in France, but learn that Paris presents its own challenges.
