When will Barbie be released on streaming in the UK?
Lo, the pink and pastel juggernaut that is the Barbie movie continues to roll across the pop culture landscape like some sort of fashion-conscious marauder horde out of a Mad Max movie. And now it’s arrived on the small screen!
When is Barbie being released in the UK?
Barbie is now available to rent and/or buy through all the usual online vendors.
What is Barbie about?
Dolls and feminism and fashion and Margot Robbie looking amazing and being funny as hell. Or, as the official synopsis tells us: “A doll living in Barbieland is expelled for not being perfect enough and sets off on an adventure in the real world.” Directed by indie icon Greta Gerwig, who co-wrote the script with partner Noah Baumbach, Barbie is both a tribute to Mattel’s perennially popular fashion doll and a criticism of it, which is a difficult trick to pull off. It’s also stunningly beautiful, ridiculously funny, and has generated countless angry videos from sad men who need to touch grass. Five stars in our book just for that, tbh.
The cast of Barbie
Who is Barbie? Why, Margot Robbie, of course! And Margot Robbie is now unarguably the biggest movie star in the world (suck it, Tom Cruise). Ryan Gosling probably has an Oscar nomination (and a Best Song performance) waiting in his future thanks to his himboriffic turn as boy toy Ken, while the rest of the cast includes (deep breath) America Ferrera, Will Ferrell, Rhea Perlman, Arianna Greenblatt, Michael Cera, Helen Mirren, plus Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Ritu Arya, Dua Lipa, Nicola Coughlan, Emerald Fennell, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, and John Cena, mostly as various Barbies and Kens. Cena is Mermaid Ken. It’s wild.
