What is What If…? season 3 about?
For those who came in late, this series offers us a variety of alternative takes on established MCU canon. What if Black Panther joined the Guardians of the Galaxy? What if there were zombies? What if Thor: Love and Thunder was actually watchable? Just kidding on that last one—it’s unfixable. So, expect eight episodes of road-not-taken tales, all overseen by Jeffrey Wright’s inscrutable cosmic voyeur, The Watcher.

Now, what variations on their original characters they’re playing is up for grabs, but expect to see—or at least hear—Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter; Anthony Mackie as The Falcon/Captain America; Sebastian Stan as Bucky/The Winter Soldier; David Harbour as Red Guardian; Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk; Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau; Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness. Plus a host of other MCU stalwarts (seriously, about 35). And, we’re getting Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm of the X-Men, because they’re teasing the mutants again.

Why we’re excited about What If…? season 3
The value in this series is that it’s not as beholden to the tangled continuity that sometimes makes the mainstream MCU such a slog. Although, to be fair, it does play with it a lot. That, combined with the largely unfettered possibilities offered by the animation medium, lets the House of Ideas really live up to its name. Plus, y’know, Storm—that’s definitely piqued our interest.
