The Muppets Mayhem: Australian trailer and release date
Everyone loves a juicy behind-the-scenes, warts ‘n’ all music documentary, right? Especially when the band in question turn out to be a pack of muppets. And that is literally the case with The Muppets Mayhem, which debuts on Disney+ on May 10.
As old school Muppets fans (and really, who doesn’t love The Muppets?) will have already guessed from the title, this series puts the spotlight on the rambunctious Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, the Muppets’ anarchic house band, as they struggle to record an album—their first!—at the behest of ambitious record executive Nora (Lilly Singh). But the cheerfully chaotic Muppet musicians are a bit of a handful for the modern music industry (who’d have thought?!) And so we get to follow Dr Teeth, Animal, Janice, and the rest of the band as they grapple with social media, celebrity endorsements, high profile collabs, and all the other ephemera of the fame game.
As it turns out, the Electric Mayhem have a lot of celebrity fans, which means a staggering number of cameos in this one, including (deep breath) Steve Aoki, David Bizarro, Rachel Bloom, Nicole Byer, Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong, Ziggy Marley, Sofia Carson, deadmau5, Desiigner, Colton Dunn, Susanna Hoffs, James Hong, Jennifer Irwin, Karamo, Kesha, Riki Lindhome, Charlamagne Tha God, Billy Corgan, Stephanie D’Abruzzo, Kevin Smith, Morgan Freeman, Weird Al Yankovic, Danny Trejo, Tommy Lee, and Little Nas X, plus a heap more besides.
It looks like a blast to us. If we’re being real, Disney have struggled for the past few years in regard to what to actually do with The Muppets now that they own them—Muppets Now after all came and went with barely a ripple. But we’re ride or die for The Electric Mayhem, so we’ll be tuning in and turning it up to 11.
