‘Prometheus’ Sequel in the Works, ‘Only God Forgives’ wins in Sydney and more

The script for Prometheus had its equal share of lovers and haters (we say, sitting comfortably on our fence). Variety brings some potentially welcoming news to the group in the latter half: Prometheus 2 has secured a new screenwriter. Jack Paglen, who worked on the script for the upcoming Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman sci-fi Transcendence, will be penning the sequel.

Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender’s head are also expected to return.

‘Only God Forgives’ Takes Out Top Prize At 2013 Sydney Film Festival

Following its world premiere at Cannes, this daring piece of cinema has continued to provoke debate amongst critics and filmgoers.  After much discussion, the SFF jury united in their decision to recognise the movie with this prestigious award.

Releasing in NZ cinemas on August 1, Only God Forgives is the second collaboration between its director and star who first worked together on 2011’s Drive.  It is also the second time the festival has recognised Winding Refn’s work (Bronson won the competition here in 2009).
