President Sam L., New ‘Gremlins’, Detroit’s ‘RoboCop’ Tribute and more movie news

Even after Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down, the President still has some ass-kicking to do, so who better to cast than Samuel L. Jackson? Big Game will see Jackson eject out of Air Force One when it’s shot down by – wait for it – terrorists, and upon landing in the wilderness team up with a bow-and-arrow wielding 13-year-old.

The Hollywood Reporter says of the film:

The movie is from the team behind Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, which premiered in 2010 at Locarno and Toronto.

The movie is billed as an adrenaline-fuelled action-adventure and tells the story of a shy, nervous 13-year-old boy who, like his forefathers, takes a test of manhood by spending one day and night alone in the wilderness of a vast local forest.

Armed only with a bow and arrow, his task is to return with a prize to prove himself. But when Air Force One is shot down by terrorists, the young man discovers the U.S. president in an escape pod, and they have to team up as the terrorists close in.

Gremlins Reboot

Is there a reboot of Gremlins on the way? Bloody Disgusting think that plans for a sequel have been ditched, with Warner Bros. now looking to start over from scratch and Seth Grahame-Smith producing alongside David Katzenberg. Smith’s the fellow who wrote Dark Shadows and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter as well as the upcoming Beetlejuice remake, if that gives you an idea of where this might be heading…

Detroit’s 3m-Tall RoboCop Statue

On Facebook’s RoboCop Archive they have all manner of cool stuff, not least of which is today’s pic of a 10-foot-tall RoboCop destined to become a bronze statue in Detroit. RoboCop fans had pushed the city of Detroit to make the statue, but when turned down utilised Kickstarter for its secondary purpose of funding cool projects in lieu of Zach Braff films.

Expect Another Pixar Sequel

Bleeding Cool spotted a very interesting phrase from Disney’s CEO Bob Iger during a stockholders conference call that alludes to another Pixar sequel that isn’t the upcoming Monsters University or Finding Dory,  (the recently announced follow-up to Finding Nemo). If we also count out Planes (it’s a Cars spin-off that isn’t from Pixar Studios), then Iger’s most likely referring to Toy Story 4.

It could also be The Incredibles 2 (which would be the most amazing thing ever), but it’s unlikely given director Brad Bird is occupied with Tomorrowland.
