Machine uprising pregnancy nightmare Mother/Android is now streaming on Netflix
Chloë Grace Moretz is one tough mother in Mother/Android, an AI worst-case scenario now streaming on Netflix for your post-apocalyptic pleasure.
For subscribers to Netflix outside the US (that means you, Australian and UK viewers), Mother/Android has been available to stream on Netflix since January 7. It stars the Hit-Girl performer as a heavily pregnant young survivor, trying to give her unborn baby a chance in a future devastated by the rise of malevolent machines.
It’s a bit Children of Men and A Quiet Place, with Moretz playing a badass Sarah Connor type: Algee Smith is her protective husband and fellow fugitive: and Mattson Tomlin, an uncredited writer on the upcoming The Batman, writes and directs the whole tale of destruction.
“In a perfect world none of this would’ve ever happened”, Moretz pointlessly muses in the trailer below. She’ll have to battle ‘an enemy that literally never sleeps’ through government checkpoints, motorcycle chases through the woods, and certainly a nightmarish labour scene that’ll arrive at the worst possible moment.
With lit-up blue eyes and removable faces, the film’s androids are enough of a devastating force on their own—but smartphones are also a no-go, exploding in their user’s faces and stranding Moretz and Smith in a post-iPhone future. Sounds sort of idyllic in some ways, no?
Mother/Android is now streaming on Netflix alongside other impressive low-budget sci-fi flicks like I Am Mother and Prospect. Seems like the platform really enjoys stories of young women getting a raw deal in a fractured world post user-friendliness.
