Japanese ‘Unforgiven’ Remake, ‘Sharknado’ Sequel and more movie news

In news that sent us quivering in the knees with excitement, a Japanese remake of Unforgiven (also entitled Unforgiven) is happening. The excellent Ken Watanabe (Inception) stars in Clint Eastwood’s spiritual role as a retired samurai forced back into action in late 1800s Japan. First Ever ‘Jobs’ Intagram Trailer is the First Ever

Even beyond the grave, Steve Jobs is still associated with innovation as Open Road production boasts a first on the upcoming biopic Jobs: an Instagram movie trailer. Starring Ashton Kutcher as the Apple co-founder, the 15-second trailer graced the social media service firmly, though it’s not the 6-second assault to the attention span seen in The Wolverine‘s ‘tweaser’ on Vine.


Kiwi feature filmmaker directs his 93-year-old Grandmother

Steadfast Films have announced that Pearl Cooper and Dorian Alexander, grandmother and grandson, have begun pre-production for the New Zealand feature film Showstopper which they co-wrote together. Starring Pearl and directed by Dorian, filming is scheduled to begin this coming spring in the central Auckland suburbs of Parnell and Remuera. At 93 years of age Cooper will enter the history books as one of the world’s oldest actresses. She joins others like Betty White, Connie Sawyer and the late Lillian Gish and Gloria Stuart.

Showstopper tells the story of Joan, a retired starlet souring with age, who meets Charlie, a teenage boy with growing pains of his own. Their shared love of film blossoms into an unlikely friendship. This friendship inspires him to become a musical theater director and helps her to re-capture the happiness in her life. Joan may be struggling to walk, but she’s not packing it in yet.

‘Sharknado’ Creators Want Depp for the Sequel

Sharknado is on the path to being one of Asylum’s biggest hits (even Mia Farrow’s seen it). It’s no surprise that producers Micho Rutare and David Latt are already talking about a sequel, and their ambitions are high to say the least. According to Zap2It, are totally keen on getting AAA-star Johnny Depp into a lead role and giving script control to Lost creator Damon Lindelof. Even if those deals fall through (and they probably will), TMZ reports that Tara Reid is up to it.
