What is The Wheel of Time: Season 3 about?
Based on the massive fantasy book series by the late Robert Jordan (he popped his clogs before finishing the bloody thing, leaving fellow swords ‘n’ silliness scribe Brandon Sanderson to finosh the final three books), The Wheel of Time is set in the fictional world of Damane. Here the sorceress Moiraine of the secret order the Aes Sedai (kibda like Dune‘s Bene Gesserit) has been seeking The Dragon Reborn, a prophesied hero who will either save the world from the Dark One or mess it up completely. It’s a coin flip.
She finds him, too, in the form of shepherd Rand al’Thor, and we proceed from there. There’s a lot of world building, a lot of complex mythology, and, if we’re remembering the books correctly (although we never finsihed the series and don’t intend to) some thorny gender-based philosophy that probably needs careful consideration in the adaptation process.
The cast of The Wheel of Time: Season 3
Rosamund Pike is Moiraine Damodred; Josha Stradowski is possible messiah Rand al’Thor; Daniel Henney is al’Lan Mandragoran, Moiraine’s Warder (magically-linked bodyguard, more or less); Zoë Robins is Nynaeve al’Meara; Madeleine Madden is Egwene al’Vere; and Marcus Rutherford is Perrin Aybara. All are inhabitants of Emond’s Field, Rand’s home village, who are caught up in the grand adventure. And it’s just been announced that Shohreh Aghdashloo has been cast as Elaida do Avriny a’Roihan, a major villain from the books.
