How to watch Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – Season 1 in the UK
Star Wars gets a dash of ’80s kids adventure in this new live action series. And frankly, it might as well, because it’s clear the powers that be have no idea exactly what they’re doing with the franchise. We say that with love.
How to watch Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – Season 1 in the UK
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – Season 1 is streaming in the UK exclusively on Disney+—as you no doubt sensed—from December 4, 2024.
What is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – Season 1 about?
Coming from Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, the fellas behind Spider-Man: Homecoming (and the excellent Cop Car, which you really should track down) the series is a family-friendly tale of the Star Wars Galaxy. It kind of reminds us of the Ewoks movies from back in the day.
On the distant planet of At-Atan, four kids—three humans, one alien—are dreaming of far-flung adventure. And they get it when they find on old starship, the Onyx Cinder, and accidentally blast off for parts unknown. From there they need to get back home, which is a bit on the nose thematically but certainly works as an overarching narrative goal. And Jude Law shows up.
The cast of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – Season 1
Jude Law—who really is a perfect fit, don’t you think?—is Jod Na Nawood, A Force-user who may or may not be a Jedi but is certainly a scoundrel. Our quartet of kid heroes are Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Wim, Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Fern, Kyriana Kratter as KB, and Robert Timothy Smith as Neel, who we’re pretty sure is an Ortolan. The always-welcome voice of Nick Frost will be issuing from the vocoder grill of SM-33, the creaky old droid first mate of the Onyx Cinder.

Why we’re excited about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – Season 1
It’s Goonies in space! Well, it’s a bit more like Joe Dante’s Explorers (under-rated banger, that) and Randal Kleiser’s Flight of the Navigator (ditto). Man, we used to get movies like this on the reg, didn’t we? It’s genuinely refreshing to see a Star Wars offering that’s actually aimed at kids. And with directors like David Lowery, Bryce Dallas Howard, Lee Isaac Chung and the Daniels calling the shots, this one feels like it’s gonna be a solid adventure for the whole family. Except for those perennially angry dudes on YouTube, of course. Screw those guys.
