Banshee: Season 1
What is Banshee season 1 about?
Set in the titular small town smack-bang in the middle of Pennsylvania’s Amish country, Banshee sees a mysterious ex-con (our boy Starr) assume the identity of incoming sheriff Lucas Hood in order to hide from Mr. Rabbit, a crime boss who wants him dead.
Obviously things aren’t going to go smoothly, especially when he tries to start things up again with Rabbit’s daughter, his is now married with kids under an assumed identity. Murder, mayhem, and malfeasance ensue. Remember Peter Weir’s Witness? Yeah, this is nothing like that. It’s a much pulpier and bloodier affair altogether.
The cast of Banshee season 1
In addition to the Starr Mann, we get Ivana Miličević as Anastasiya “Ana” Rabitova, his ex; Bern Cross as the ruthless Mr. Rabbit; Ulrich Thomsen as Amish crime lord (that’s a new one) Kai Proctor; Frankie Faison and Hoon Lee as our hero’s old criminal buddies; plus Rus Blackwell, Matt Servitto, Demetrius Grosse, Trieste Kelly Dunn, Ryann Shane, Daniel Ross Owens, Lili Simmons, and more.

What are the critics saying about Banshee season 1?
In all honesty, the first season got pretty mixed reviews, but don’t listen to them. This one is an absolute banger. It’s shockingly violent, luridly sexy, funny as hell, and has enough twists, turns, betrayals and double-crosses for a good dozen similar series. If you dig Fargo and/or Preacher (especially the comic series, rather than the compromised TV adaptation), you’ll eat Banshee up with a spoon.
