How to boldly go with Jean-Luc in Star Trek: Picard season 2
One of TV’s most beloved bald heads is a shining beacon of sci-fi once more, in the second season of Star Trek: Picard. And this time, legendary Starfleet captain Jean-Luc is headed to a place and time not so unfamiliar to our own.
The latest season is now streaming exclusively on Prime Video, with episodes arriving week by week from March 4 to May 6. The destination this time around is 21st century Earth: a big jump for the 24th century geriatric captain and his new team, but not such a shock for viewers.
After an attack from the malicious Borg Queen and legacy villain Q, played with silver-haired panache by John de Lancie, going to the past to save the future is Picard’s only option. In the trailer below, Picard calls on an old friend for some help: yet another fan fave, Whoopi Goldberg’s Guinan.
“I’m going to need some tea. Earl Grey. Piping hot”, she announces, before calling the mission Picard has ahead of him “one final frontier”. Get ready for some mind-boggling timeline shenanigans.
Stephen A Russell’s review of the new season expressed a lot of excitement for that thrilling opening, an attack on the valorous U.S.S. Stargazer. He also celebrated the “emotional wallop” of Picard’s fatherhood plot, and stories of his own upbringing: “Flashbacks to Picard’s mum Yvette also signal the show will go boldly deeper into who Picard really is and why he has never been able to commit.”
If you’re a novice Trekkie, it might be best to catch up on the first season of Star Trek: Picard, also available to stream on Prime Video, before moving on to this well-received follow-up season. Then you’ll be able to boldly go everywhere Jean-Luc does, with a committed, steely Patrick Stewart performance to guide you through every battle.
