The new generation of Ghostbusters head for the franchise’s spiritual (heh) home of New York City in a sequel that, if we’re being honest, totally snuck up on us. Seriously, when did they shoot this?

What is Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire about?
According to the official synopsis from Sony: “In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family decide to leave Summerville, Oklahoma and go back to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – and help the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level! But when the discovery of an ancient artefact unleashes a mysterious and evil force, known as the Death Chill, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a deadly and unpredictable fate that unknowingly, could affect earth’s history with a second Ice Age.”
Clearly this is following on directly from 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, so be sure to give that one a spin if you need a refresher course on recent events in the world of ghostbusting.
The cast of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
Original Ghostbusters Bill Murray (Dr Peter Venkman), Dan Aykroyd (Dr Ray Stantz), and Ernie Hudson (Dr Winston Zeddemore – apparently he got his PhD at some point), are on board. There’s also Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace back as the Spenglers, Paul Rudd returning as Gary Grooberson, plus newcomers Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind. But the big news is that William Atherton is returning as EPA inspector Walter Peck, the real hero of the original film.

Why we’re excited about Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
Bustin’ makes us feel good. Returning the franchise to dirty ol’ NYC strikes us as a smart play, and we’re pretty sure Mckenna Grace is one of these preternaturally talented child actors who’s going to win an Oscar one day. All up, this one looks like a lot of fun.
