What is Captain America: Brave New World about?
As Sam Wilson struggles to be accepted in the role of Captain America, having taken over from Steve Rogers, a shadowy new threat emerges. While Disney have been typically purse-lipped over plot details, it clearly involves the Serpent Society, a recurring team of villains in the Marvel comics; old school Hulk nemesis The Leader (his power is he’s really smart); and a new, red Hulk.
This one seems to be going back to the political thriller trappings that made Captain America: The Winter Soldier such a breath of fresh air, so we’re looking forward to that. Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) is directing.
The cast of Captain America: Brave New World
Anthony Mackie is Sam Wilson, your new Captain America; Danny Ramirez is Joaquin Torres, who is taking up Sam’s old superhero identity as the Falcon; Shira Haas is Israeli former Black Widow Ruth Bat-Seraph, an ally of President Ross; Carl Lumbly returns as Isaiah Bradley, a victim of the US governments Super Soldier experiments in the 1950s; Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson are back for the first time since The Incredible Hulk as former Bruce Banner love interest and gamma-irradiated super-villain Samuel Sterns aka the Leader; Giancarlo Esposito is Seth Voelker aka Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society. Plus grumpy ol’ Harrison Ford is Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the President of the United States and, as we all know now, also the rampaging Red Hulk.

Why we’re excited about Captain America: Brave New World
It’s not over-egging the pudding to say there’s a lot riding on this one. The MCU has been in the doldrums lately, and the success or failure of this latest offering could set the path going forward. But Mackie is reliably great, the tone is on point, and hey, Harrison Ford! We’ll be watching.
