Adam Sandler’s ‘Pixels’ Bombs in US; the World Rejoices
Pixels is latest feature from Adam Sandler, a sci-fi comedy based loosely on a short film where giant versions of iconic 1980s video game characters invade Earth. It also isn’t very good, according to most critics.
Perhaps this doesn’t come as much of a surprise, given his recent track record (The Cobbler, Blended, Grown Ups 2, That’s My Boy, Jack and Jill), but what does come as a surprise/relief is how it bombed in the US Box Office.
In its opening weekend, Pixels made approximately USD $24 mil., which isn’t a bad haul for most films. But for a film with a budget close to $90 mil., it’s not looking likely that it’ll make its money back any time soon.
That’s a bomb, though not as much of a bomb as Blackhat, which cost around $70 mil. to make with a current TOTAL gross of $17 mil. WORLDWIDE. Ouch.
‘Pixels’ is still due for release here in September. (Also in 3D.)
