The horrors of a childhood living under Cambodia's Khmer Rouge are examined through stop-frame animation and archive footage in this documentary from acclaimed filmmaker Rithy Panh. Winner of 2013's Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes.
Bolstered by archival footage, The Missing Picture relies on re-enactment to illustrate the horrific, unfilmed and unphotographed horrors to which the Cambodian people were subjected. Intricate scenes of hand-carved, detailed figurines detail Panh’s recollections of life as a teenager under the regime of Pol Pot as his film catalogues atrocities of the Khmer Rouge.
