Bullied by classmates, Max (Cayden Boyd) escapes into his imagination where he watches the action-packed lives of Lavagirl (Taylor Dooley) and Sharkboy (Taylor Lautner). However, one day Lavagirl and Sharkboy suddenly come to life and their world, Planet Drool, needs a hero named Max. From there, Max must battle aliens and versions of his own bullies while trying to save his new friends' planet from destruction.
