Alfred Hitchcock's classic thiller, named the fourth best British film of all time by the British Film Institute in 1999. Londoner Richard Hannay (Robert Donat) tries to help counter-espionage agent Annabella Smith (Lucie Mannheim), but when she is killed and he stands accused, Hannay goes on the run to save himself and stop a spy ring from stealing top secret information. Unfortunately, he is handcuffed to Pamela (Madeleine Carroll), a young woman who has been drawn into the case against her will and believes he is guilty.
The script is based on John Buchan's 1915 novel, the first in a series to feature the Hannay character. The story has been adapted for the screen four times, and even a comedy stage production.
