Oldboy (2003)

Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook was one of the 2000's biggest revelations and Oldboy is his finest work. Adapted from a Japanese manga, it was a twisted tale of revenge that kept you enthralled from the first frame to the last. When the film's intrigue was masterfully transformed into realisation in the final section, it was easily one of the decade's greatest 'wow' moments. There are also some amazing action sequences littered throughout the running time, all to the sounds of a breathtaking score. 

Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik) is an ordinary Seoul businessman with a wife and daughter who, after a drunken night on the town, is locked up in a strange, private "prison". No one will tell him why he's there or who his jailer is. The imprisonment lasts for 15 years until one day when Dae-su finds himself unexpectedly deposited on a grass-covered high-rise roof, determined to discover the mysterious enemy who had him locked up.
