Grabsky travels across Europe and North American to interview historians and musicians, and looks at the romantic myth of Beethoven as a heroic, tormented figure battling to overcome his tragic fate, struck down by deafness, who searched for his 'immortal beloved' but remained unmarried. Looking beyond the image of the tortured, cantankerous personality, In Search of Beethoven reveals someone quite different and far more interesting.

The film also captures 55 performances, from artists around the world, presented chronologically - marrying it to Beethoven’s biography and letters.
