"Crazy Rich Asians begins, like Disney's Beauty and the Beast, with a woman in the pouring rain seeking refuge and a place to stay for the night. Unlike the fairy tale princess who impersonates a helpless hag, Eleanor (Michelle Yeoh) has phoned ahead. But the staff at the counter of the hotel where she is supposed to stay reject her, because she is Asian and they are racist. Retaining her composure, Eleanor – who we soon discover is enormously wealthy – makes a phone call.
