Bonjour Tristesse

Otto Preminger's (Anatomy of a Murder) 1958 chic, bittersweet drama set on the French Riveria, starring Deborah Kerr and David Niven. The title translates to 'Hello Sadness' in English. The film - which features both colour and black & white sequences - is based on Françoise Sagan's bestseller, written when the author was only 18.

Cécile (Jean Seberg) is the decadent daughter of rich playboy Raymond (Niven). Anne (Kerr), a friend of Raymond's late wife, arrives at their villa to visit. While tolerant of most of her father's mistresses, Cécile is wary of the prudish Anne and does her malicious best to break up the relationship. Her cruelty, and Raymond's dissolute ways, drive Anne towards a tragic end.
