Ireland, 1845, on the eve of The Great Hunger. With their community facing starvation and ruin, fisherman Colmán Sharkey (Dónall Ó Héalai), his brother and Patsy (Dara Devaney), a former soldier, travel to request a stay on rent increases from their landlord. When this is denied, Patsy's subsequent actions drive Colmán to the edge of sanity. It is only upon encountering an abandoned young girl that Colmán's resolve is lifted - just in time for his dark past to pay another visit.
