About The Ritzy Picturehouse Brixton
Contact & About
There are few areas of London with a more colourful past or vibrant present than Brixton, and its famous Ritzy cinema reflects that. Opened as the Electric Pavilion in 1911, it was one of the city’s first purpose-built cinemas with a seating capacity of 750 for its single screen. There are a lot more films these days, so this impressive building now houses five screens showing a well-chosen variety of pictures.
The cinema was once known as the ‘fleapit’, but that was the best part of a century ago and these days it’s much more appealing, with a bar that serves local beers, tasty snacks and full meals. It also has its own live music venue called Upstairs.
