About Rio Cinema Dalston
Contact & About
An art-deco marvel inside and out, the Rio dates back to 1909. It specialises in indie masterpieces and voguish foreign films for discerning movie buffs – although you might find the odd sprinkling of middlebrow studio hits showing here in the height of summer.
Golden era favourites are shown at the monthly Classics Matinee, while parent-and-baby screenings are held every Thursday. The main auditorium is extraordinary, seating 400 in a grand, two-tiered space complete with classic red velvet seats (read: no cup holders), while the smaller room in the basement seats 28. The small café/bar serves a good selection of cinema snacks, including vegan options, and locally brewed beer.
