About Phoenix Cinema East Finchley
Contact & About
Opening in 1912 with a film about the then-recent Titanic disaster, the Phoenix Cinema leans towards contemporary arthouse films, plus modern classics, National Theatre Live and theatrical recordings. It has a cafe reflecting the wide variety of cuisines and cultures represented in the neighbourhood, plus a gallery space with ever-changing exhibitions. The auditorium is decked out in plush red velvet with a curtained screen for added glamour. The management works hard on education and outreach, offering a kids’ club screening every Saturday at noon for only £3, with a free hour-long workshop beforehand, plus ‘toddler time’ activities on Tuesdays. For the adults, there is a weekly film studies group, curated around a different theme per term. It also offers subtitled, audio-described and relaxed screenings, plus dementia screenings which are free to anyone over 60 and their carers.
