About Central Cinema Barnstaple
Contact & About
The building might date back to the 1930s, but inside the Central in Barnstaple it’s strictly state-of-art. The largest of the multiplex’s four auditoriums has a 46ft screen, one of the biggest in the south-west, while all rooms have digital projection and Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound. The Central first opened as the Gaumont Palace Theatre in 1931. After going through several name changes, it was taken over by Classic Cinemas who christened it the Central in 1967. Scott Cinemas took charge in 2000, and while the multiplex (the RAAM UK Independent Cinema of the Year in 2008) has been modernised, the building has retained its period features. You can mull over the mixture of styles at the bar in the upper foyer.
